Maggie Lee, Program Engagement Director
Maggie Lee
A bit about me:
Hi I'm Maggie! I'm a senior at Moreau Catholic High School. I have been with YAPA Kids since May 2020 and I'm super excited to now be working with this organization as Program Engagement Director. Most of my work as the director goes to keeping engagement up within the YAPA Kids teacher community as well as helping the team form better connections with each other. I also have been coordinating the creation of new programs and hope to continue to approve even more fun and engaging programs for everyone!
What do you enjoy about teaching here at YAPA Kids?
YAPA Kids is a really special program, and as I said before, I love the students. But that is partly because I love teaching in general. The second I heard about it, I was immediately impressed and wanted to get involved. In YAPA Kids specifically, I find that compared to other programs, there is really good organization and communication unlike some other programs I’ve been a part of. As a teacher being able to see the joy on students faces after teaching them how to make a dish, or teaching them about black holes, always made me feel content. I also love all the members. Every person in our team is so nice and the bonds I’ve made with people is amazing. Within this program, we have built a community. I want to play a part in keeping this organization going because the spark that YAPA Kids has is lighting up the future.
What have you learned from teaching kids/at YAPA Kids?
I learned a lot about keeping kids interested. Too many lectures can be boring or overwhelming for the students. I’ve been working on adding interactive activities or games for them. Through that, I’ve also been introduced to so many new resources.
Any other comments you want to share?
YAPA Kids is so fun and I recommend it to everyone (whether you’re a teacher or a student)
